ASSISTED LIVING RECLAIM THE JOY OF LIVING

Huntsville Blends Easy Rural Living and Big City Amenities

Get back to reconnecting with nature without sacrificing the convenience of urban living. Although Creekside Methodist Retirement Communities provide all the necessary amenities to keep our residents comfortable on our grounds, those who wish to venture offsite will find plenty to keep them occupied in Huntsville.

Recreation

Located in the East Pineywoods along Interstate 45, Huntsville provides our independent living residents with a variety of outdoor experiences to enjoy the surrounding forest and breathe in the fresh Texas air. Nearby Huntsville State Park offers 21 miles of hiking and biking trails for those who like to keep moving. The park's 210-acre Lake Raven is an excellent place to settle on the banks with a fishing pole and has designated areas available for swimming. The city is also home to The Bearkat Course, a multi-tee golf course, designed by Tripp Davis, that works with the natural elements of the area to create a breathtaking visual experience for anyone looking for a day playing 18 holes. The Frank D. "Poncho" Roberts Aquatic Center & Splash Pad is a fantastic option for Creekside residents to cool down on hot summer days. The center offers water aerobics, Monday through Thursday, throughout the year for those who want to stay moving with a lower impact activity.

Residents who prefer to appreciate the surrounding beauty of the area from a more developed location will find plenty of activities available within Huntsville city limits. History buffs can immerse themselves in the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and learn about the colored life and political career of the American general who once commanded the Texan army in the Texas Revolution and called Huntsville home in the early 1800's. The Texas Prison Museum offers an intimate look at what life is like for inmates within prison walls while teaching the history of the Texas prison system. Other options include the Samuel Walker Houston Museum & Cultural Center and a variety of cultural experiences within the designated Huntsville Cultural District.

The city's downtown area is a delightful place to enjoy the varied cuisine or spend an afternoon perusing the charming local shops that line Main Street. The Old Town Theatre gives patrons the chance to enjoy a show in a historic, 342-seat venue, that offers live music, performing arts and film screenings throughout the year. Seasonal activities, like the annual Christmas Fair or summer Farmers Market, provide unique opportunities to celebrate and engage with the community.

For our Creekside residents that expect visits from family with children, there are several playgrounds scattered throughout the city, and within Huntsville State Park, and a number of kid-friendly activities available. The Kat Klub at Sam Houston State University offers indoor recreation for all ages, including billiards, bowling lanes and a selection of arcade games. The Carol Turner Children's Museum provides hands-on activities to keep little ones entertained.

Climate

A moderate climate adds to the appeal of the area. Located in the southern half of Texas, the Huntsville climate is perfect for those who prefer mildly warmer weather. With July highs in the lower 90's and January lows above freezing, residents can enjoy all the activities the city offers year round without worry of snow and ice. Huntsville rainfall comes in slightly above the national average, ensuring residents the opportunity to enjoy the occasional rainy day knowing sunnier weather is likely just around the corner.

Medical Care

Creekside residents already have access to onsite skilled nursing, including support for diabetes, stroke, COPD and memory care services. Rehabilitation services are also provided at the Creekside campus which also provides these services to the rest of the Huntsville community. For those who need additional care or require hospitalization,  Huntsville Memorial Hospital is only a few minutes away. A 24-hour level IV trauma center ensures unexpected medical issues are addressed quickly and the hospital's Huntsville Heart & Vascular Center is available to provide diagnostics and intervention for assisted living residents who are managing heart conditions.
